Portugal has a long time been regarded as one of the world's
premier golfing destinations with good quality courses,
plenty of sunshine and enjoying a wide range of accomodation
and nightlife. Golf in Portugal is split into two main
areas, in the south the Algrarve, over 100 miles of
picturesque coastline, long sandy beaches and some
of the finest courses in Europe and to the north the
equally impressive Lisbon area with its unique history
and more laid back attitude to golf.
The Algarve is split into three distinctive golfing areas,
the central part is most well known centred around Albuferia
and Vilamoura and its famous courses with a great selection
of bars and restaurants. To the East you have Tavira a
charming Portuguese town with traditional surroundings.
The south western end of the Algarve, provides the golfer
with some excellent courses which tend to be quieter than
the Vilamoura courses but no less demanding. The coastal
area surrounding the cosmopolitan and sophisticated city
of Lisbon has grown in popularity as a golfing holiday
destination and it is easy to see why with the number of
fine courses in this area.
The resorts in this region offers something for everyone,
from the vibrant resorts of Estoril and Cascais to the
charming fishing village of Sesimbra but a trip to historic
and cultural Lisbon with its excellent shops and restaurants
is a must. |
